Friendly reminder that, while the implicit opportunism and the “I knew there was something about me that wasn’t ‘right’ compared to Thor” certainly goads him too, the biggest issue he had was with lack of forthrightness.
Because see. If you think it’s awful enough to hide something from someone, that is PART OF WHAT THEY ARE, then they believe, through frankly quite a logical chain of reasoning, “wow, then what I am must be horrible. I need to efface that part of myself at all costs.”
“Monsters” are never given a mirror. They only see what society projects onto them. The negative qualities that society forbids or scorns.
I’m astounded that this scene still instantly brings me to tears when I’ve seen it dozens and dozens of times by now. There’s something incredibly human and relatable about Loki’s identity crisis.
